Helping Royal Roads Plan for a Greener,
More Resilient Campus

Project

Royal Roads University Site Wide Energy & GHG Reductions Analysis

Focal Engineering led a multi-disciplinary team to assess and audit the energy use and emissions of Royal Roads University’s existing building stock with respect to energy usage, GHG emissions and resilience goals. The team has proposed an overall plan that will align with RRU’s climate action plan and its 2025, 2030 and 2050 goals.

Results

In Phase 1, historical utility data were reviewed alongside assessments of 25+ campus buildings to provide feedback on current emissions reduction progress, and a governing plan to move forward. Phase 2 is anticipated to begin shortly, with more detailed audits and upgrades/ replacements of buildings that are the highest emitters. Other campus-level analyses in Phase 2 will include a more detailed risk and resilience analysis, site electricity capacity upgrades, building energy metering and investigating/ installing renewable energy generating equipment.
Focal helped the design team achieve sustainable design excellence, enhancing this dynamic space for visitors to connect with nature.
