Focal was retained by the City of Vancouver to develop Version 3 of the Energy Modelling Guidelines (the Guidelines) which also included feedback and recommendations regarding the impact on modelled building performance. We based our recommendations on the feedback from the City of Vancouver and results of public stakeholder engagement (including industry modelling professionals and government building officials through two virtual workshops).

Some of the key areas reviewed included:

• Overheating Analysis for Passively-Cooled Buildings
• Resilience for Future Climate
• Compliance for Actively-Cooled Buildings
• Tested airtightness and infiltration impacts

Focal recognized that the Guidelines are the foundation of the BC Energy Step Code, and as such, this project demonstrates our ability to provide top level energy modelling and associated methodologies, codes, and performance standards.
